Useful information about the potential dangers of connecting AI to your internal systems

By Olga Astaniotis

I saw this article this week, which reminds us all to be vigilant about how we use AI and to ensure we put in place appropriate safeguards to protect our businesses and intellectual property. Specifically it warns us on the following:

  • Do not connect AI browsers to work emails, calendars, or document drives.
  • Avoid using them on sites requiring authentication or containing client or personal data.
  • Disable memory and agent features entirely if you must test them.
  • Treat them like experimental tools, not production-ready software.

Secondly, there has been much publicity recently on Google’s latest developments with Gmail smart features. Essentially, the new updates enable Google’s AI function to read content in your emails as a training tool for their AI models.  If you don’t want your emails to be used in this way you can disable the smart features function in settings. There are many articles on this available online so you can learn more and make the decision that’s right for you.

Remember, AI is being developed to mimic not just general human behaviour, but our individual style, speech and language, which poses a certain security risk that you should manage within your business and personally. A precautionary approach is recommended, with protocols in place so that your workforce also understands the risks.
